Can All Steel Buildings Withstand An Earthquake?

In certain areas of the world, it is crucial to build structures to withstand the massive shock and damage associated with earthquakes. Unfortunately, science has not yet developed an early warning system that can give immediate notice when an earthquake is imminent. Thus, we are completely at nature’s mercy to survive an earthquake, and buildings must be built to withstand an earthquake at any time.

Much research and study has been devoted to learning which types of structures fare best in an earthquake. Generally speaking the consensus is that metal buildings fare better than concrete.

However, one might ask: does this mean that all metal buildings can withstand an earthquake?

The answer is no. Just because a building is metal does not mean it will automatically do well in an earthquake.

Metal structures are more likely to survive earthquakes because they are more ductile –they can bend and flex without breaking. This characteristic is crucial in a serious earthquake.

The most common type of metal used to build earthquake-safe buildings is steel rebar. Steel rebar has the ductility that is critical to absorbing earthquake and is very strong, making it the best and most effective option for building in an earthquake zone.

Steel rebar has proven to be an excellent building material that can withstand earthquakes, but it is not fool-proof in and of itself. It must be applied with the correct engineering and architectural principles to maximize its effectiveness.

If you are considering using steel rebar to build an earthquake-resistant structure, be absolutely sure your plans and methods are correct, or hire a builder who is familiar with steel buildings.

Other types of metal buildings are far less resistant to earthquakes, and can be quite unsafe in earthquake-prone areas. Many metal modular homes are not constructed to withstand the tremendous shock of an earthquake. These types of buildings would be very unsafe in an earthquake zone. Also, sheet metal buildings are very fragile and highly likely to collapse during an earthquake.

Experts do not recommend either of these types of structures to be placed in an earthquake zone. Some zoning laws forbid them altogether.

Another very important factor that influences whether a building will survive an earthquake is the distribution of weight. A building that is top-heavy is more likely to fall than a building that is lightweight at the top. An earthquake-safe building not only should be constructed with steel rebar. It should be framed with lighter materials in the upper floors and have a heavily reinforced lower section.

The most important lesson to learn from this discussion is that just because a building is made of metal doesn’t necessarily mean it is earthquake proof. To be fully earthquake proof, a building needs to be built with the correct materials (like steel rebar) and be built according to the correct standards.

If you are building a commercial facility, you owe it to yourself, your customers, and anyone who uses the building to use the best materials and techniques available to you. You want to get the most out of your investment, so give it the attention it merits… build a steel frame building.

How to Protect Your Xbox Games with Backups

Many Xbox 360 owners need to be able to copy there games as a sort of security. Now imagine if a new game got scratched after only a few tries. It was a game that you really liked and had paid $50 to own it. If you understand how to copy Xbox 360 games then you’ve got a back up, if something does go wrong or it becomes lost or scratched then you’ve got the security of having a same as new backup copy to use and you haven’t lost your investment

Playing computer games does scale back their life over time. Though you may not realize it, every time you play, it becomes a touch used and worn a little. More frequently, gaming disks can be damaged by getting dropped or scratched. Damages such as these can usually never be fixed which is why you need to backup them up. Scratches also frequently happen due to faulty hardware or mishandled use. Game systems add wear to the disk every time you play it. By duplicating them and making backups, you can never have to buy the same Nintendo game again.

In order to make a back up copy of your Xbox or Xbox 360 game you’ll need special softeare as standard software that you mighr use to repeat CDs or DVDs will not work thanks to the security codes built in to the Playstation games discs. There are a few different corporations that have produced software programs in particular for making backups of Xbox and Xbox 360 games. When you install one of these programs, your computer is in a position to get past the protections on the disc and duplicating xbox games becomes extraordinarily simple. You can read a full review on different sofware that answers the question of methods of copying Xbox 360 games

Once you have installed the software on your computer you’ll be burning Xbox 360 games in just a few minutes. After the software has been installed you need to load your original Xbox game into your personal computer’s disc drive and start the duplicating process. The software will read the files from your computer game and store the image on your PCs drive including the “unreadable” security files which are stored as an image. It then writes all of this information back to a new blank disk that will be recived by your Xbox console as an original that is not possible to tell it has been copied.

Please understand that we’re not writing this to persuade folks to attempt to make illegal copies of Xbox games! Our goal is to explain a way to explain that you can make backup copies of the games that you own. This is totally legal, and it gives you a way to make sure you have a copy in case something occurs to the original.

My New Website

Introduction

The term ‘Web Design’ creates a lot of confusion and misunderstanding. The word design suggests graphics and layout so many people think that’s what designing a website is all about. Most people think that website design is very simple, all you need to do is install the company logo, add the relevant wording, decide on the arrangement of the pages and that’s it.

Well I am about to amaze you by outlining the many complicated processes involved in web design. Think of it this way; when an architect designs a house all we see is the way he lays out the rooms, how the available space is arranged. We normally do not concern ourselves with the amount of technical detail that goes into the design. The architect has to work out the stresses on the walls and the weight of the roof. If there are fireplaces he has to know about draughts and the shape of chimney for it to do the job. He has to plan heating systems, plumbing systems, drainage and sewage, what type of windows to use, door fittings and many other details so that when it’s finally complete the overall effect is pleasing and suitable for the purpose intended. Web design is similar. A customer may have an idea of the layout of the website but will need the services of the Web Designer to make it all happen.

Stages in the Process

There are many items to be decided on before even starting to build a website. Some of the important questions to consider are:

  • Who will be the target audience?
  • What is to be the purpose of the website?
  • Do you want it to be found by the search engines?
  • What is the domain name for the site?
  • What links need to be in place?
  • What type of graphics do you want to use?
  • Do you want to include photographs?
  • Do you want a system of monitoring visitors to the website?
  • Once the webmaster has the answers to these questions then he can start the process of designing the site to give you what you want.

    Target Audience

What sort of people are going to use the new website? Are your customers likely to be businesses, sales people, home owners, parents, teenagers or children and so on?

    Objectives of the Website

Is the website to be used to sell products on line, or to market your business to get leads for new customers? Maybe you wanted it to be an online brochure to showcase your services. Balloons for trade have a website for resellers only so that they can look up the products before placing an order. Because there is no selling on line there are no contact details on the site. You may want to use the website to foster a community to be in contact with other like minded people. You would need a design that incorporates a chat rooms and online discussions.

    Being found on the Web

One thing to consider with a Nottingham web design job is how you want your website to be found on the web. This involves a whole process of establishing keywords for your products or services. The first step is a search of key words in the industry. Finding the best keywords is vital if you want to be in the top ten listed in Google. By using a keyword research tool you can find the single most popular keyword; the one everyone puts in. For example people looking for a vacuum cleaner might type in Hoover although this is in fact a brand name.

    Domain Names

Domain names can be the hardest part of setting up your website, because nearly every name you come up with will most certainly have been registered already. By far the most popular are domain names ending in .com as they are internationally recognised. For that reason alone the majority of shorter names will already have been registered.
Choosing names with endings such as .net; .co.uk .org .info may provide you with the domain name of your preference. When choosing your domain name it is a good idea to include one or more of your keywords. Although the name of your business may be the obvious choice for a Domain Name, it is not necessarily the only option.

So as you can see choosing domain names and keywords right at the beginning of the project will determine how the site is constructed so that it is suitable for the purpose required.

A brand new domain name space has just been launched.

Companies can now apply for their name in this brand new .tel name space and it is intended to replace the telephone directory. When the domain name is viewed in your web browser it will provide the companies details and telephone number.

    Creating a Site Map

It is very important to have a site map to outline the pages on your website, e-commerce website or forum space. It shows the design and flow through the website so that when selling on line, items work in order such as; adding product to basket, entering delivery and billing address and on to making credit card payment. The site map helps to identify how user friendly the website is so that there are no difficulties in getting onto the site. Often the user name and password are set for the customer so there is no hindrance to achieving the initial purchase.

Non e-commerce sites are easier because it is possible to receive enquiries by email, without publishing the email address on the website. By using a contact form you will avoid spam and also validate the information before you receive it. The aim is to create a balance between discouraging junk mail, and making it easy for the enquirer to use the site.

    Links

An important consideration when designing a website are links. These can be links to other pages of content within your website, and links within the content of your website in the text, as well as links from the menu. Consideration has to be given to whether the links will open in a separate window so you still have your original page open or will the new window replace the previous one.

    The Copy

The copy is the words and visuals you want on your website. Having made decisions about the target market and relevant links, along with the keywords and using the site map information, the next stage is to decide what imagery you want displayed. A picture speaks a thousand words and remains in people’s memory far longer than just words. So images are important to reach your audience. Each image needs a caption which is the ‘most read’ words on the page after the title. The caption of an image need to be clickable so that when you click on a picture it takes you to the next stage of the sales process.

    Design

The final design of the website is often the most difficult stage of the process because it’s subjective. In a large corporation, many people from various departments will have an input for their division. Everyone has their own ideas of what they think the site should look like and trying to gain a consensus can be a nightmare because not everybody will agree on the same things.

If you are setting up an ecommerce web design project just for yourself then you will probably have a clear idea of what you want to see on the site.

Even then unless your ideas are workable in the medium, you may have difficulty getting something you like. Firstly to achieve a great design it is recommended you review other websites and find out what you like or dislike about them. Look at competitor’s websites to make sure your design will be an improvement on what is already in the market place.

Once you have done that you will need to create a design brief. The design brief should have a reference to the logo and any existing brand guidelines, colour schemes and fonts adding in any other relevant information.

Having done a design brief look for an experienced graphic designer. Choose your designer carefully, finding one who designs specifically for screen and the web to achieve the very best results. Beware of choosing a graphic designer who designs for different discipline such as print as they are very different processes. Look at other works the designer has done and decide whether or not you like their style.

Using multiple graphic designers is the best option if you are working in the big time and budget allows. Give each designer the same brief and request three concept designs from each one. The client might also do a design, even if it’s a scribble on the back of an envelope, there will then be ten concept designs. Get everyone together and choose the preferred elements from each design. Once the items you want are selected choose one graphic designer to workup the final artwork.

All parties need to agree on the final artwork before building of the site begins. Consideration should be give to the fonts used for the titles and buttons etc. Fonts have to be licensed so if the designer has not supplied something then the developer will need a copy of the fonts to achieve the task. Professional graphic designers will usually provide the artworks in a layered Photoshop file so if titles are not going to be in plain text get the designer to also supply the fonts.

    Production

At last all the preparation has been done and the site is ready to go into production. This is where it gets technical! You may not want to go into the detail in which case leave it to your Web Master to choose for you. There have to be decisions about what language to use, either Unix or Windows based, to build the website. Each have advantages and disadvantages with multiple variants but sites such as Ebay, Facebook, Google as well as other well known websites are built on Unix. Your website has to be built with the development language of your web host provider so that they are compatible.

    Accessiblity and Compliance

These are current standards for website coding to insure that disabled users, such as the visually impaired, can still access all sections of the website.

    Development

Development of the website is best done on the web server where the site will reside. Those involved in reviewing the work can then monitor work in progress and provide feedback throughout the development.

    Unforeseen Items

As the site building progresses the customer suddenly thinks of something they must have. No matter how well the web master prepares and asks the client the right questions, there are always some last minute adjustments to the programme. The main aim is to minimise last minute additions because they aren’t calculated in and will generate extra costs and cause delays to the date of the website going live.

    Going live

At last your site is up and running and you see the results of all the planning that has gone into the whole process. There is no substitute for real world testing so as soon as the site is live ask your friends and colleagues to view the website from their own computers and give feedback.

    Marketing

Once the site is up and running it’s time to turn your attention to marketing your products by submitting the site to the search engines, writing articles, and press releases and generating links from forums, blogs and other social networking spaces.

    Reporting and Monitoring

Use a reliable statistics package such as Google Analytics or Web-Stat.com to collect and review website visitor data. All you will need is a small block of code inserted into each web page on your site to collect visitor information to help you assess the success of your products in near real time. Web-stat.com also monitors the website and alerts you by email and text message if the site goes down.

    Conclusion

The title ‘Web Design’ is a bit misleading in that people often assume it means the graphic design on the home page and the branding of the product. Unless you are a computer expert, most people do not realise the amount of work that goes into designing and building of a website. Clients are not aware of the amount of complicated technical work necessary to build the systems that support what they want the website to do. In such a complex process anything that gets tacked on at the end will end up incurring more cost to your budget.

The degree of initial questioning is an indicator of how competent your Web Master will be. Every aspect of the construction has to be decided upon before you even start the design. These things may sound very technical to us non techies but it is essential for the Web Master to find out exactly what is required so that everything can be costed accurately and built into the design from the beginning.

    Preventing a Wedding Musical Disaster

Music is an integral part of any wedding. The special day would not be as special without the melodious sound of a trumpet, flute, violin, organ, or vocalist. Musicians, however, have a repu-tation for being a bit touchy or even demanding, but sometimes improper treatment is to blame for a seemingly uncooperative attitude.

In fact, probably no other element has resulted in as many wedding disasters as the music. Good news: You can prevent the musical wedding disaster. To help you do so, we present this guide. To prevent music from becoming a problem, there are a few things that need to be considered during the planning stages of a wedding.

The first consideration is preparation. Just because a good musician makes singing or playing an instrument look easy does not mean that it is. The music should be chosen well in advance of the wedding to allow adequate time for rehearsal.

Proper planning is vital if a group is playing, for they must both learn and synchronize the music. Last-minute changes or additions to the music selections may result in a poor performance, and will certainly result in disgruntled musicians.

Another consideration is leaving the expert material to the experts. Unless someone on the plan-ning committee is a virtuoso, it is best to have an open mind about what musicians can do and cannot do, and even better to find out if they can provide what is wanted before hiring them.

For instance, Pachelbel’s Canon in D is a standard wedding processional piece, but it requires numerous instruments. The Canon is essentially a round, so it will sound terrible if performed by a solo violin. Therefore, if you want the Canon, find enough musicians play it properly.

The final consideration is proper care. Playing music is not an easy or simple task, so a certain amount of accommodation is in order. For instance, wedding musicians often have, and share, horror stories about outdoor weddings.

Even without the threat of inclement weather, the outdoor atmosphere can spell disaster. Ex-cesses of heat, cold, and humidity can hamper an instrument’s playability and even, in extreme cases, cause extensive and expensive damage.

Outside air can be bad for vocalists too. When planning an outdoor wedding, then, be sure to provide indoor shelter for musicians and their instruments.

Another accommodation to consider is space. Some instruments, notably trombones and any-thing that is bowed, can require a lot of space to play, so squeezing them into a small area can spell disaster. Plan for musicians to have ample space to play.

It is also important to consider that music performance is work, and musicians are generally not superhuman. It is unfair to expect a group to perform nonstop for the duration of the reception, and all musicians, wind players and vocalists especially, need water. Places to sit, a chance to rest, and refreshment should be made available.

The type of music for each part of the wedding is important as well, what will they play for cake cutting music ? Also you might want to choose a country song for your wedding and they can help.

There are many more possible suggestions about  wedding songs, but the best way to summarize them all is this: treat the musicians like the rest of the wedding party and staff.

One does not or-der the cake the day before the ceremony, tell the photographer precisely how to take pictures, or make the bride stand outside, where the humidity will ruin her hair, without water or a place to freshen up. Since music is an integral part of a wedding ceremony, it is best to be considerate of those providing it.

Do Woody Armor Boots really make a difference when you’re hunting?

Muck Boots has created a boot specifically for the hunter.  I was amazed when I first saw these boots.  They were a beautiful camouflage color and there was no doubt as to the exceptional quality of these boots.

As I lifted the boots from their box, I noticed how lightweight they were.  Quality, combined with lightweight and comfort.  Not to mention the unique airmesh breathable lining throughout the inside of the boots.

What makes the Muck Boots Woody Armor so unique are two things, the first being its scent free rubber that the boots are made from.  How important is this?  Well, animals are very sensitive to smells and they can smell natural rubber a mile away.  You don’t want your boots giving you away when you’re trying to track down that big game.

The second feature that distinguishes this boot from all others is unique toughness that the boot exhibits.  The boots have been tested using diamond back rattlesnakes and with several strikes to the heel and toe, none were able to penetrate the boot.  Now that’s safety from unexpected surprises when trouncing through the swamp or woods.

With stealth and protection, the Woody Armor is a hunter’s dream boot, and since it’s so light and comfortable they can be used for anything, field work, outdoor play, or just something to protect your feet from the elements as you walk to the store.  I am so impressed with these boots, that I wear them for everything, not just hunting.  Try a pair on, you won’t want to take them off.

    Looking Into New Firewood Racks

For this reason, it is often used with firewood covers to help provide protection here. These are something of a compromise between a firewood rack and a firewood cover. This is important because many covers are designed to literally lower themselves after you pull out firewood.

They are not designed for curing purposes and, it is critical that you use ones that let the wood breathe and do not fully cover the wood. It will be your best solution. It is similar to small outdoor covered wood rack. Although you may not think that you will need to move you rack around a great deal, most people end up having to move theirs enough to give the weight of it some consideration.

Although building a rack by hand may not be the best option, it can be a way to save a few dollars for those on a budget. By keeping these different options in mind, you should have a greater understanding on what are the best methods for storing firewood. We believe this is due to their better performance and less obstructive form.

Companies know that they are something that is a great tool, and that is why a lot of companies use them to promote their businesses. At Karl’s cutlery shop the grinding and polishing machines were powered by a waterwheel which was powered by the Tobelbach brook. The IWA International Knife Award has become a badge of international quality and innovation.

The Swiss Army Knife is truly the icon of ingenuity. Karl’s company was originally the only supplier of Swiss Army Knives to the Swiss Army.

Disposable cameras are available with and without flash capabilities. Disposable cameras are a great item to recycle. Prices for a camera with the capability for 25 or 27 pictures range from $9 to $19.

Disposable digital cameras are cheaper than the regular digital camera. Disposable digital cameras are a really cool new technology that sounds initially impractical, but works very well. For this reason if you take a couple pictures, you cannot go back and erase the first or second one.

Maybe disposable camera invention may be the best selection for you at this time. The company can potentially bring digital photography to the masses with this disposable digital camera which doesn’t mess around with wires, memory cards or computers. This camera type comes with either a red or a silver fascia.

    Vibrant Hong Kong

Hong Kong welcomes visitors from all over the world with a smile. The urban embodiment of the balancing act between Chinese and European cultures, Hong Kong has long been one of the most exciting business centres on earth.

Few travel to Hong Kong for the sights; they come for business and excitement. Hong Kong is so lively it sizzles like the oil in the woks of its ubiquitous street vendors. Little has changed since the 1997 return of the British colony of Hong Kong to China. The city that flourished through co-operation between the Chinese and British societies is, if anything, more fascinating and interesting than ever before.

    Opium highs and lows

In the early eighteenth century, the first British merchants to arrive at what would become Hong Kong, found only a few fishing huts. The region had no importance at all within the Chinese Empire and had been ignored for centuries.

The British built a trade port here in 1711, and it thrived during the early nineteenth century when goods from China were in fashion in Europe.

As the fashion for Chinese goods declined the British began to trade in opium instead, harvesting it in India and importing it illegally into China, where the Qing dynasty emperor had banned its sale. When the Chinese tried to halt the imports, the British responded with violence.

The resulting Opium Wars (1838-1856) were devastating for China. In 1842, the British took control of the city of Hong Kong and it became a British colony. A 1898 pact with China made Hong Kong and 234 nearby islands a British protectorate for ninety-nine years. The treaty ended in 1997.

Negotiations took place in 1982 to modify the original agreement in order to protect Hong Kong’s special status. China had originally demanded control not only of the so-called “New Territories” around the city, but also of Hong Kong itself. Through a series of agreements and concessions, the UK was able to prevent Hong Kong from being directly incorporated into mainland China. Instead, on 1 July 1997, Hong Kong was declared a Chinese Special Administrative Region.

    Skyscrapers and feng shui

Hong Kong’s special status has allowed it to remain a modern economic metropolis. Despite its visible modernity, traditional ways of life are never forgotten. The ancient Chinese art of feng shui is still applied to new constructions, where measurements are configured according to lucky numbers and windows positioned so as to let prosperity in and bad luck out.

Skyscrapers loom where splendid colonial buildings once stood, only a few of which have survived. In the central district, the Cathedral of St. John, the former French Residence and the Legislative Council Building are among the few pre-modern buildings that remain.

    Omnipresent Buddha

Traditional life is a stronger presence in the New Territories than in the city itself. Beautiful temple complexes abound, built in traditional style in tranquil settings. 10,000 Buddhas Monastery is one of the most frequented. This number represents “very many” or “countless” in Chinese, rather than a specific number of Buddhas.

In fact, there are more than 10,000, perhaps as many as 13,000. The enormous bronze Buddha towering above Lo Pin Monastery on the island of Lantau is the largest Buddha in the world, measuring 26 metres tall. Visitors can climb a steep path of 260 steps to reach it. The panoramic view from the top definitely rewards the effort, as does the spiritual enlightenment achieved along the way.

    2009 Tax Return Estimator

We can save a lot of money by filing our income taxes ourselves. I was curious and called a few of the better known companies and was shocked by the base rates for completing tax returns.

In this economy we are all looking for ways to keep more of our money in our own pockets. If you’re curious like I was about the online software companies then, do yourself a favor and look into this. I found real help with an easy to use system. Turbo Tax has a tax return estimator that so easy to use I can’t believe it. They have set it up in a graphical interface that a kindergartener could understand.

It’s as easy as 1…2…3. Just the thought of sitting down with those tax booklets with tons of pages of instructions gives me a headache. The online tax return estimator is so easy to use. They have it broken up into sections. This makes it very simple to organize and enter the information. There are three main sections.

    · Your Personal Information
    · Total Income
    · Deductions, Credits & Payments

Now, if you get nervous like I do then, don’t worry. If you do not understand how to answer a question, they have a question mark right by the question and when you click on it, you will get a full explanation. I personally found that very helpful.

As you are entering your information, you can see how things are panning out with the calculation results, which is located on the right side for your convenience. Sometimes we humans make errors and I know this is true of me. If you happen to make an error, you can go back at anytime and put in the correct information.

Do you want to try before you buy? You can fill out your entire tax return and you do not pay unless you choose to print the return or file the return. This is the quickest way I have ever found out how my tax return will look.

If you’re like me, as soon as December is over, you’re thinking about filing your tax return. This tax return estimator will certainly save you time and that is very valuable. I always find it comforting to know the online software will run the numbers through all of the categories to get me the biggest return possible or get me the biggest reduction of payment possible. Let’s face it; computers are more up to date on the constantly changing tax laws than we are.

The tax return estimator will find deductions for you that you didn’t even know you could claim.
Depending on your knowledge of tax laws, you may receive valuable advice on how to save even more money next year. I trust the professionals when it comes to my tax return. It seems like every year I am given another tidbit of advice on a deduction I can claim.

It just gets easier year after year. I save time and I am ensured accuracy because Turbo Tax automatically fills in my information from last year’s return. This definitely saves me a lot of time and prevents any data entry errors. What are you waiting for? Give it a try today!

    Great Plano Personal Trainer!

I just wanted to tell you how great it is working out with a Plano personal trainer from Lady Trainers To Go. Although I don’t really have a lot of weight to lose, I do need to work on increasing my strength and flexibility. Having a busy schedule makes it difficult to find time for exercise. Also, I’m not the type of person that will go to a gym. So, working out at home makes perfect sense for me.

My job can be pretty demanding so I need as much energy as possible. Working out with my Plano personal trainer is definitely helping in that area. Each day, I find myself functioning better because I’m more energized and alert. My focus is better and I’m able to accomplish more than ever before. Having a personal trainer in Plano has helped in the areas I needed to work on.

Another great thing is that my trainer is extremely upbeat, positive and supportive. She pushes me to do things I wouldn’t have ever tried on my own. Her encouragement definitely motivates me to challenge myself. She also makes sure that our workouts have variety, which keeps me from getting bored or burnt out with exercise. I actually look forward to our workout sessions because they’re enjoyable. I really appreciate the job my trainer has done. Lady Trainers To Go is a wonderful way to get in shape on busy schedule. I look forward to continuing on my fitness journey and seeing great results in the near future. I would definitly recommend a Plano personal trainer to any lady that wants to get fit.
