Stunning Brussels – Heart of the European Union

Often featured in the media as the seat of government of the European Union (EU), Brussels is much more than a city of bureaucrats. It is a meeting point all the diverse cultures in Europe, and exudes a unique multicultural energy.

Brussels is not only the heart of the EU. The Belgian capital is a lively and exquisite city in its own right, a town rich in history and full of places to see. Designated the cultural capital of Europe in 2000, Brussels is no mere town of boring bureaucrats. It has its own tale to tell.

A fortress in the middle of a river.

The name Brussels (Bruocsella) is first documented in the year 966. It means “chapel in a swamp”, and likely refers to its position on the Senne River. The settlement itself had probably been founded between three and four hundred years earlier. The earliest stronghold on Brussels Island dates back to around the end of the 10th century.

Central Brussels.

The story of Grand Place (in French, or Grote Markt in Dutch), the town square located at the middle of Brussels, leads us on a trip through the city’s history. Grand Place was created as a market and business square, but soon attracted the trade guilds and city administrators.

They erected palacial guildhalls and government buildings as proof of their power and affluence, Brussels became one of Europe’s most important trading and banking centres during the High Middle Ages and would remain so until 1695, when French cannons shelled the city for three days, levelling Grand Place and reducing much of the city to rocks and ashes. It was rebuilt quickly, and the guildhalls that currently stand on Grand Place bear witness to the city’s revival.

Grand Place remains a favoured gathering place for residents and tourists alike. Many of its countless restaurants, cafes and hotels are open around the clock.

Brussels city hall.

The Hotel de Ville (Brussels city hall), completed in 1450, is an architectural crown even among the grandiose guildhalls and structures surrounding it. Its facade was one of the few structures to survive the French bombing of 1695. With its 96-metre-tall tower topped by a golden statue of St. Michael and the dragon, the Hotel de Ville is Brussels’ most talked about landmark, visible from every part of the historic old town.

A different kind of city emblem.

Most visitors consider the statue called Manneken Pis (literally, “the boy peeing”) at the corner of the Rue de l’Etuve and Rue des Grands Charmes to be the symbol of Brussels. Just who the little boy in this work by sculptor Heironimus Dusquesnoy is supposed to be remains an unsolved mystery. In any case, the brazen lad is certainly one of the city’s main tourist attractions. Meanwhile, his female counterpart, the Jeanneken Pis, can be found at the end of a cul-de-sac called Impasse de la Fidelite near La Grand Place. The citizens of [the city|Brussels} have always been in favour of equal rights, and if that meant commissioning a statue of a similarly indisposed little girl, so be it. The statue was dedicated in 1987.

The giant molecule.

The 102-metre-high Atomium is another favourite installation in Brussels. It began its existence as an exhibition hall built for the 1958 Worlds Fair. It represents an iron molecule, magnified 165 thousand million times. The tubes connecting the nine atomic particles are actually conduits containing escalators and walkways.

Due to its use of futuristic materials and non-traditional design, it has long been considered both an architectural masterpiece and an impressive piece of grand monumental sculpture.

Within, the Atomium still houses the occasional exhibition on topics related to nuclear technology, aeronautics, astronomy and meteorology. Inside the uppermost sphere is a restaurant that affords a beautiful view of the entire city, weather permitting.

Need To Learn What Derma Rollers Do.

Dermarollers are devices used in one of the most successful treatments developed in recent years. Commonly called collagen induction therapy, its main use is as an effective stretch mark and acne scar removal technique. Dermarollers are rolled over the surface of the body, gently piercing the top layers of skin with 192 top grade micro needles.

Skin needling encourages collagen fibre and elastin formation in the results in the skin tightening, plumping out and generally showing the signs of much younger skin. Results do not take long to show and it is possible to derma roller acne scars away in under four weeks.

You can dermo roller as often as five days a week with no down time in-between, as part of a successful beauty regime that can be done from home. The process only takes a few moments to complete and can be considered as simple as brushing your teeth.

When choosing to buy derma roller products, there are several important considerations you need to consider. Firstly, how strong are the needles? If you want a Dermaroller which is going to last longer, you will need to buy a model which has the highest grade needles possible. Secondly, how fine are the needles? More expensive models tend to have narrower needle widths. This means that the needle penetrates the skin easily, reducing any discomfort that may be experienced with less expensive models.

It is recommended that you always seek advice from a doctor or some other trained health professional before beginning any treatments.

What is Tai Chi? A quick guide from Stratford Tai Chi

The exact origins of Tai Chi are hard to tie down. There are many myths about its origins. One of those says that Taoist monk Chang San-feng was disturbed by the sounds of a snake and a crane fighting in his courtyard. He then built a style based around their movements.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese form of movement that coordinates your body and focuses on the cultivation of internal energy. It’s aim is to harmonize the mind, body and spirit hence, promoting both metal and physical well being through relaxation. It is often described as a type of meditation that combines deep breathing and movements that exact structual alignment. Correct practice appears rhythmical, effortless and in continuous flow and it can generate surprising power almost at odds with its gentle movements.

People who regularly practice Tai Chi become revitalized, relaxed, tolerant, stronger and healthier. Tai Chi is suitable for all ages and sexes because it does not rely on strength, force or speeds. It brings benefits in many areas.

Tai chi is derived from Chinese health and longevity practices, which were merged with a comprehensive system of self defence. In the past, much of Tai Chi was kept secret, but very gradually, knowledge of the art spread throughout China. Now at the start and end of every day in villages, towns, and cities all over Chinese Asia, people can be seen practicing the slow, graceful movements of tai chi in courtyards, squares and parks.

Tai chi came to the West during the 20th century largely due to the cultural revolution when many masters fled the country. Today, tai chi is found in almost all countries, and a huge number of people practice it regularly.

It requires a high degree of concentration and mental focus. The breathing is natural, sometimes involving deep breathing, and is carefully synchronised to your movements.

Tai Chi consists of soft, relaxed (usually) slow movements and is recognised as being good for stress, balance, blood pressure and general health. It is one of the one of the Chinese Internal martial arts (neijia). The others being Hsing-I, Ba Gua Zhang and Liuhebafa(Six Harmonies, 8 Methods).

Tai Chi appeals to a wide range of people and age ranges, (teens and 20′s up to 80′s & 90′s) but it is not common for the art to be taught to children as the training can be slow for their tastes. There are a number of forms specifically targetted at the over 50′s and health problems such as Arthritis.

The Problem Of Creating money making blogs

There are millions upon millions of blogs on the internet, many sit for days and weeks with out people visiting them or seeing what they have to offer. This really does not matter if your only interest is to have your friends and family look at your latest set of photographs. If however your aim is to create money making blogs then this is a very serious issue because without traffic you will have no sales, simple but harshly true.

So what can you do to get traffic to your blogs well one of my favorite ways is to start at the end and work backwards, what do I mean by this well, if your main goal is to create money making blogs, then begin looking at what people are looking for. Instead of setting up a pretty blog etc, just go out there and find out what people are interested in. A great place to do this is Ezine articles. Go to there home page click one of the categories and look at the most viewed articles over the last 90 days are there any patterns? Is there a couple of surprises? Things you may have never thought of? Then begin to research your keywords and potential products from there.

Doing things this way gives you confidence that there is a market for your blog, obviously other factors such as keyword research and making your blog as google friendly as possible.

Then its do it again, yes you have guessed it, if you want money making blogs you are going to need more than one

Obviously this can be time consuming. A great way to save time is to use a tool called firepow Firepow really is about making money making blogs. And firepow is just about to get even better with firepow 2 ready for launch in the near future.

To read my assessment of firepow and how it can help you make money blogging visit firepowreviewsite.com

A couple of Northampton Taxi Trips To See My Sister

I had arranged a day out with my sister who I had not seen for over six months, she lives in Northampton which is where I used to live until I moved away some 20 years ago.

Northampton was once had the biggest boot and shoe industry in the country, supplying a high percentage of the UK with its foot wear needs. This is where Northampton Town Football Club also earned its nickname ‘The Cobblers’ from.

I arrived by train from Birmingham, the journey was quick and easy and on arrival at Northampton Station , I jumped in a Northampton Taxi which took me to Delapre Abbey and Gardens. I arranged with the driver to pick me up later and then I met up with my sister and went straight to the tea rooms for coffee.

Delapre Abbey (about two miles from the railway station) was built in 1165 by the son of 2nd Earl of Northampton and was named The Abbey of St Mary De La Pre, meaning St Mary in the Meadow. We spent some time in the abbey, and then wandered through the lovely old walled garden wondering how many generations of gardeners had worked here.

Beyond the walled garden is another beautiful garden where there are several named gravestones of pets belonging to the abbey many years ago. We then went back to the tearooms and had a lovely lunch and a good old natter, catching up since our last meeting.

We then walked up Delapre Hill to visit Queen Eleanor’s Cross which was built in 1291. The hill is really only a slight incline and was a pleasant walk on a path lined either side with horse chestnut trees. After her death, Queen Eleanor had spent a night in Delapre on her way to Westminster Abbey.

As arranged earlier, the Northampton Taxi driver picked us up and took us to the town centre where there is a very large market, I think it is the largest remaining permanent market in the country. We had deliberately picked on market day and had a good look around there before stopping off for a cup of tea and made a quick phone call to our Northampton Taxi Driver to take me back to the railway station. The day went so quickly and I promised myself another visit very soon.
